Who Is Jesus?: The Answers - Part 2

March 18, 2008

The second video, Who Is Jesus? - Part 2, asked three questions that I will answer. Feel free to chime in if you want.

  1. What comes to mind when you hear the name Jesus? Many things do, but I suppose it would be best summed up by the Apostles Creed: [I believe in] Jesus Christ, His [God, the Father] only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
  2. Do you think Jesus was God or just a man? Short answer: both.
  3. What do you think Jesus looked like? Not a very relevant question in my opinion. I do not think it matters much what Jesus looked like. Although he most definitely did not look like the typical Western images of him - Caucasian, blonde, blue-eyed, etc.

Who Is Jesus?: The Answers - Part 1

March 3, 2008

The first video (Who Is Jesus? - Part 1) asked four questions that I will answer. Feel free to chime in with your answers as well.

  1. What are your thoughts on the afterlife? I definitely believe that there is one. First, there are the lives of Methuselah and Elijah who were taken up into heaven and did not die an earthly death. You also have the evidence of the Transfiguration with Jesus, Moses, and Elijah (Matthew 17:1-13; Mark 9:2-13; Luke 9:28-36), where, if there was no afterlife, then Moses and Elijah could not have been there. Finally, and probably the strongest evidence, is the resurrection of Jesus after the third day. Extra-biblical evidence, though not as strong, are the Near Death Experiences (NDE’s) that people have experienced and documented.
  2. Who do you believe is God? God is the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and the first person of the Trinity.
  3. What do you think about Jesus saying that He is God? The evidence is there to show that he at least made the claims as well as thought of himself in those terms. There is further evidence that shows he had the ability, through the working of miracles, and authority to back up those claims. However, the ultimate witness to his claim is the resurrection itself.
  4. What do you think about Jesus saying that He is the only way to Heaven? If he was who he said he was, and the evidence does lead to that conclusion, then if he were to say that the only way to heaven was through him, then it must be true. He did not lie in anything else that he taught, so it seems reasonable that he would not lie about this either. Also, if Jesus was God as he claimed, and again, as the evidence concludes, then we know that it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore he is telling the truth - he is the only way to heaven.

Who Is Jesus? - Part 6 - Final Installment

March 1, 2008

This is the final installment of videos from this group in Melbourne, Australia. I hope you have enjoyed them and I pray that we will learn from these and “be prepared to have an answer for the hope that we have,” as we are commanded to. In the coming week, I will go through these six posts and answer the questions that were posed. I would invite you to do the same, either here or on your own. I believe that this will be a good exercise in helping you to articulate what it is you believe and do not believe about Jesus.

This last post deals with a smattering of different questions. They are as follows:

  1. Describe religion to me…
  2. What do you think someone has to do to get to heaven?
  3. Do you think faith in Jesus has any relevance to life today?

Who Is Jesus? - Part 5

February 29, 2008

The fifth installment deals with the resurrection as well as another question about life after death. It is still amazing the answers received for these questions. How do we respond to their responses?

  1. What do you think about the claims that after three days of being dead, Jesus came back to life?
  2. If Jesus was resurrected, how do you think it happened?
  3. What do you think happens when you die?

Who Is Jesus? - Part 4

February 28, 2008

Part 4 of this video question series revolves around the concept of sin and the afterlife. The responses to the three questions asked were pretty revealing. I know I am a bit naive at times, but I truly have a difficult time grasping hold of the idea that average, everyday people do not have even the basic concepts of these idea formulated already. It is a bit shocking to see not only the lack of ability to respond, but also the lack of knowledge and understanding in attempting an answer.

The three questions asked during this vinterview are:

  1. How would you describe sin?
  2. Would you classify yourself as a sinner?
  3. What are your thoughts on heaven and hell?
