End of an Era
March 4, 2008

Brett Favre is retiring and I’ve got mixed emotions if I’m being honest.
The selfish part of me wants him to play forever. The practical part of me wants to pat him on the back and tell him what a great job he did on and off the field. Yeah, I know about the battle with painkillers and the rehab and all of that. In my opinion that does not tarnish his image or his legendary status, it just makes him human - but aren’t we all?
Favre played an amazing 17 seasons (16 with the Green Bay Packers) in the NFL - incredible for any player in the league, especially when you think that the average player stays active for just under five seasons. Not only that, but Favre played in a consecutive 253 games (275 including playoffs). He was a 3-Time NFL MVP (only player in NFL history to win it three times) and holds all the major passing records (61,655 passing yards, 8,758 passing attempts, 5,377 passing completions, 442 touchdown passes, and 160 career wins).
It is going to be extremely tough watching the Packers next season and not see #4 running out of the tunnel and on to the field at Lambeau. It will be even tougher not seeing him under center, taking snap after snap, leading the Green and Gold down the field in the last two minutes of a game to win it. He brought a youthful, boyish jubilance to a game of men and that will be missed most of all.
Goodbye Brett - you brought us a lot of good memories and we will all miss you.
