American Idol (2008) - Week 9 - Top 3

Well, it was Mariah Carey themed week. I did not start the show as a fan and I did not end it as a fan. I guess she is ok. She definitely has proven herself with a slew of #1 hits, but it just is not my type of music that I enjoy. However, a five-octave vocal range is massive and anyone that can boast of that is truly talented.
My top three are in the following order:
- David Cook
- David Cook
- Jason Castro
David Cook rocked the joint with his own twist on Mariah’s Always Be My Baby. His arrangement was smoking hot and by far and away the best performance of the night. David is definitely in a league of his own right now and it appears that everyone else is battling for second place.
David Cook is also my number two of the night. Why? Because he was just that good tonight and everyone else was just that bad.
Jason Castro barely made took the number three spot. He performed Mariah’s I Don’t Want To Cry and did a terrific job with it. Actually, it was better than terrific, it was fantastic - probably the best he has ever done on the show. If he had not have done as well as he did, David Cook most likely would have taken this spot as well!

lol - you’re funny. David Cook at #1 AND #2, huh? Well…I can’t disagree with you. Not only is he consistent, and obviously has musical knowledge and creative skills to re-work the arrangements, but he’s been pulling ahead of the pack for several weeks now. He’s leaving the rest of them in the dust.
He’s pretty good and he has started to pour it on.
oh yeah, totally agree: david cook was far ahead of the rest this week. i really like archuleta too…he has a phenomenal voice…but i think the age/lack of experience/goofy-i’m-a-little-boy-thing is gonna hurt him in the end. this week’s performance by him was ok…but not nearly as original and professional as cook’s. love david cook.
i’m not nearly as impressed w/ jason as the judges are every week. he’s got a very cool style and look…but i don’t think his vocal abilities touch either of the david’s.
alas, i hate to say…my love for carley is slipping away. she needs to just sing Heart songs, hehe.

I also agree with your take on Archuletta. Poor kid needs to just spend some time growing up and learning what his musical expression is. He’s got a great voice but the songs he picks…I dunno… They don’t seem like songs your typical teen would want to belt out. I always feel like I’m watching an episode of young talent on Star Search or something when he’s on. Cute, pitch perfect, but forgettable.
I think Michael Johns had the best performance of the night… oh wait a minute.. wrong night!!
